Light Pollution and the Problems it Creates Sci-fi Synopsis: The year is 2258, and in an effort to keep up with the increase in population and industrialization, artificial light has increased to the point where one can no longer tell the difference between night and day, since it is always daytime somewhere in the world. The public have long since forgotten about the sun and the stars. People must initiate certain protocols in their homes in order to gain the dark necessary for sleep. One night, an EMP blast from a solar flare knocks out the power supply for the artificial light, and in the morning, citizens are greeted with a bright circular object in the sky. Scientistââ¬â¢ are tasked with reassuring the public that everything is normal and they take advantage of this opportunity to discover the changes that have occurred in the universe that they have not been able to see for years. Research Paper: In 1879, Thomas Edisonââ¬â¢s light bulbs first lit a New York street, and the modern era of electric lighting began. (Chepesuik 2009). This set in motion the illumination of the world as streets, arenas, and high rises took to the sky. As the population of the Earth increases, so does the amount of artificial light produced as people strive to be brought out of the dark and into an industrialized society.
